Purpose of the Position:

The Senior Business Intelligence Technician will manage processes and systems related to data collection and data analysis. This profile will be in charge of the design, maintenance, and management of business intelligence tools and systems created for UN organizations in multiple projects. This involves process evaluation, data visualization, cross-departmental collaboration, and effective communication with stakeholders to meet business requirements. This profile will be integrated in a multidisciplinary group with Data Architects, Master Data specialists, Data Engineers, Visualization Specialists, Business Analysts, Devops / Data Ops engineers and Data strategy specialists to deliver key strategic solutions for UNICC and its partner agencies.

Objectives of the Programme:

The objective of the Centre is to provide trusted ICT services and digital business solutions to its Clients and Partner Organizations.

Main duties and responsibilities:

The incumbent will work under the direct supervision and guidance of the Data Operations Lead within the Data Management Unit (DDAM) and in close collaboration with the Data Governance and Artificial Intelligence Units and
teams. The incumbent will perform the following tasks:

  • Support the development process of data analysis and visualizations, including scoping, design, implementation, testing, delivery and guiding staff on the use of the products
  • Participate in the development of corporate visualization solutions derived from multiple data sources using state-of-the-art tools to enable insight and decision-making at various levels
  • Propose data models, including performance measures, to enable scorecard analysis
  • Provide support to the development and implementation of projects on cloud environments
  • Perform ad-hoc analysis and present results in a clear manner
  • Provide technical support and guidance through prototyping, testing, build, and launch of Power BI products
  • Manage data pipelining and preparation
  • Following the unit’s best practices, participate in ge the identification, design, and implementation of internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing architecture for greater scalability
  • Following the unit’s best practices, contribute to individual projects regarding the optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of sources into data pipelines, as well as the creation and maintenance of data catalogues
  • Implement of changes to data systems to ensure compliance with data governance, protection, privacy, and security requirements

Recruitment Profile

Experience and Skills required:

Essential:

  • A minimum of eight (8) years of relevant IT experience, including experience in development, implementation and maintenance of business intelligence / analytics tools and applications. A completed university degree from an accredited institution will be counted towards minimum work experience requirements
  • Proven experience in producing communication tools and materials to share data-driven insights clients and senior decision-makers
  • Proven experience with relational databases such as Microsoft SQL
  • Working knowledge of MS SSIS, SSAS, SSRS development and operations
  • Experience in analyzing data on performance, such as evaluation, equipment performance data, or other related data
  • Experience with business and data analysis to identify precise, quantitative solutions
  • Knowledge of data ingestion from multiple corporate data sources and performing required transformations in Power BI query and other ETL tools
  • Experience in creating SQL queries and database procedures. Ability to understand technical design documents and schema relations
  • Ability to build, test, update and support reports and Dashboards and deploy to Azure corporate platform
  • Knowledge of Deep Data Modelling
  • Knowledge of the creation and maintenance of data warehouses, data marts, data transformations and migration of data and reports/dashboards to other platforms
  • skills in full suite of Power BI products, including Power BI Reporting Platform
  • Knowledge in developing complex calculations in DAX

Desirable:

  • Experience with project development in Cloud as Azure or AWS
  • Agile project participation experience
  • Strong data analytical skills, testing and validation skills

Education:

Essential:

  • Graduation from secondary school supplemented by training in IT

Desirable:

  • Certifications in Power BI or Azure

Languages:

  • English: Expert knowledge is required
  • Knowledge of the local language of the Duty Station will be an advantage

Eligibility:

This vacancy is open to UNICC staff only.

This position is subject to local recruitment pursuant to staff rule 4.4 of the United Nations Staff Rules. Compensation:

Annual Salary Estimation (net of tax at single rate):

  • Valencia, Spain: EUR 48,769
