Position Description

Purpose of the Position:
The purpose of the post is to support the UNICC Cloud (open-source stack) Manager in the implementation and on-going support of UNICC Cloud OpenStack. The Core Infrastructure Engineer will act as the main technical focal point for the OpenStack ecosystem of services, providing expert support and advice.

The objective of the Centre is to provide trusted ICT services and digital business solutions to its Clients and Partner Organizations.
Main duties and responsibilities:
The incumbent will work under the direct supervision and guidance of the UNICC Private Cloud (open-source stack) Manager within the Cyber Security Division (CS). The incumbent could be requested to do any other tasks of similar level in related fields:
Under supervision and in close collaboration with the UNICC Private Cloud (open-source stack) Manager, the incumbent will perform the following duties:
- Provide technical advice and support the implementation of the Canonical OpenStack stack i.e. MAAS, CEPH, OpenStack and Kubernetes as a Core Technology of UNICC Cloud
- Assess technical requirements and establish priorities/timeline/resources.
- As part of the project team, provide regular reports on the progress of the OpenStack software layer implementation
- Create and maintain documentation for the Canonical OpenStack software stack related to its deployment, configuration, and operational procedures.
- Provide guidance on the implementation of best security practices and mechanisms to protect data and systems. This includes managing user access, tracking activity, and responding to security breaches
- Act as the main interface between UNICC Cloud implementation partner and UNICC Cloud in OpenStack Core Infrastructure activities
- Support UNICC Cloud OpenStack implementation partner in routine system updates and maintenance tasks. This could include updating core cloud infrastructure components, applying patches, and performing system checks
- Support a smooth transition of the service into Operations and provide relevant technical advice
- Collaborate with other UNICC Cloud core team members, IT teams and departments within and outside UNICC to integrate products and services into UNICC Cloud
- Lead the transition from UNICC implementation partner managed services to full UNICC support
- Monitor system performance and ensure system availability and reliability, tuning systems for optimal performance
- Automate routine tasks with scripting languages and OpenStack components. Use orchestration tools to manage and automate deployments
Recruitment Profile
Experience and Skills required:
Essential:
- Minimum five years of relevant IT experience, with a focus on Open Source Technologies
- Proven experience in supporting the architecture and deployment of highly complex on-premises infrastructures
- Hands-on knowledge of Public Cloud IaaS & PaaS services
- Strong knowledge of General-Purpose Programming Languages like Python, Bash, etc.
- Strong knowledge of container technologies including Orchestration tools such as Kubernetes or Docker
- Hands-on experience on continuous integration and continuous delivery /continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines
Desirable:
- Proven record of demonstrating initiative to improve existing processes
Education*:
Essential:
- A bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information technology, or a related field
- Certification in Public Cloud Services
- Certification in Linux (e.g. LPIC, RHCE)
Desirable:
- Certification in OpenStack
- Certification is Kubernetes
Languages:
- English: Expert knowledge is required
- Spanish: Beginner knowledge is desirable

Compensation:
Annual Salary Estimation (net of tax at single rate):
- Valencia (Spain), including post adjustment (29,6% on December 2023): US$ 81,248.
