Position Description

The incumbent will work under the direct supervision and guidance of the Chief, Business Solutions Section (OPB) within the Operations Division (OP). The incumbent could be requested to do any other tasks of similar level in related fields.

Data Center support:

  • Lead in assessing and identifying enterprise-wide Data Center improvement initiatives to optimize existing environments
  • Participate in the operational management and support of the onsite Data Center, including infrastructure cabling, installation and deinstallation of equipent, environmental monitoring, and in-rack system components
  • Evaluate the Data Center environmental conditions and practices such as heating and cooling systems and propose enhancement initiatives towards sustainable operations
  • Assist in developing monitoring and reporting capabilities e. developing scripts for Data Center operations to track Data Center performance and identify potential issues, generate regular reports on Data Center metrics, including uptime, performance, and incidents
  • Review current practices of documentation and inventory of equipment, asset management (cabling layout, equipment layout, etc.) and initiate improvement plans
  • Participate in security audits and vulnerability assessments as well as providing inputs to reporting requirements
  • Participate in developing resiliency capabilities of UNICC Data Centers in collaboration with other technical teams

Infrastructure Support:

  • Enhance the deployment of management and analysis tools for servers and hosted equipment in the Data Centers including fine tuning of alerts related to operations infrastructure health, status of infrastructure events and threshold
  • Participate actively in the resolution of infrastructure related problems and requests, including all hardware and software components within the established ISO 20000 processes
  • Participate in the installation and configuration of the infrastructure equipment, hardware and solutions using the standard configuration and template

Important Notes:

  • The nature of the work requires occasional work in tight and/or narrow spaces, such as under raised floors
  • Occasional work in noisy areas with hotter and colder temperatures than standard office environmental conditions
  • Ability to work at heights, off a ladder and in confined spaces, lift up and move up to 25Kg

Recruitment Profile

Experience and Skills required:

Essential:

  • At least five (5) years of relevant professional experience. A completed university degree from an accredited institution will be counted towards the minimum work experience requirements
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Data Center Infrastructure Operations and strong understanding of underlying DC components such as HVAC, racks, connectivity, power and structured cabling system
  • Good working knowledge of Data Center hardware (i.e. servers and components, Network devices, appliances, backup hardware)
  • Good technical knowledge and understanding of industry cable test procedures and equipment for a variety of different cabling systems (Copper/Fibre test equipment, OTDR, Network analyser, etc.) including in-depth understanding of Cat 5e/6 and OM3/4 – OS2 fiber optic cabling systems
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and Data Center technical documentation
  • Knowledge of configuring network equipment such as Cisco switches and other network devices
  • Good knowledge of Data Center and management tools including scripting, playbooks and automation tools to streamline repetitive
  • Working knowledge of ISO2000 Service Management Standards and other service management standards and best practices

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of Networking TCP/IP protocols
  • Experience with Windows and Unix/Linux Operating Systems
  • Knowledge of ANSI/TIA Data Centre international standards

Education:

Essential:

  • Successful completion of secondary school education or its equivalent, supplemented by specialized training in IT

Desirable:

  • First university degree in Information Technology or related
  • IT related certifications

Language skills:

  • English: Expert knowledge is required
  • Knowledge of the local language of the Duty Station will be an advantage

Eligibility:

In order to be eligible, staff members should:

  • Be already working at G5 and above
  • Have served in their current fixed-term position for at least two years
  • Hold a continuing or fixed-term appointment which is expected to continue for at least six months after completion of the short-term developmental assignment
  • Have received an overall rating of at least “satisfactory performance” in their last PMDS
  • Obtain their Supervisor’s approval

Selection process:

  • The HR focal point of the receiving office will carry out an initial review of the applications for eligibility
  • The applications will then be reviewed by the supervisor of the receiving office who will make a final selection. In reviewing applications, due consideration will be given to staff’s proven commitment to learning and development, their performance record, as well as to the relevance of the staff exchange for the staff member’s personal and professional development
